InduIndustrial Design Suite

Seamless Translation from Inventor to Revit

The CTC Industrial Design Suite (IDS) connects the worlds of mechanical and building design, enabling manufacturers and engineers to transform Autodesk® Inventor® assemblies into intelligent, fully functional Autodesk® Revit® families. With tools for both environments, IDS ensures data-rich, connector-accurate, and layout-precise conversions—empowering coordinated, fabrication-level modeling across disciplines.

Transform Inventor Intelligence into Revit-Ready Data

The CTC Industrial Design Suite (IDS) bridges the gap between Autodesk® Inventor® and Autodesk® Revit®, delivering a seamless workflow for converting detailed manufacturing assemblies into intelligent, Revit-ready content. Designed to serve engineers, fabricators, and BIM managers alike, IDS ensures high-fidelity translation of design intent, geometry, and data between mechanical design and building information modeling environments.

With purpose-built tools in both Inventor and Revit, the Industrial Design Suite enables direct conversion of Inventor assemblies into usable Revit families, while maintaining essential metadata, MEP connectivity, and precise layout coordination. The result is a streamlined integration of fabrication-level design into the BIM ecosystem—ready for documentation, coordination, and scheduling.

Family Converter - Inventor

The Family Converter in Inventor allows users to export individual assemblies or selected components directly to Revit-compatible family files. Each chosen part is converted into a shared nested family, preserving part relationships and ensuring accurate scheduling downstream.

This converter also helps maintain the fidelity of MEP connectors, allowing exported Revit families to function properly in MEP workflows. With intelligent export control and metadata retention, it sets the foundation for a smooth Revit integration.

Layout Exporter

The Layout Exporter enables users to export complete factory or system layouts from Inventor. Each assembly within the layout is converted to a corresponding Revit family, and their placement data—coordinates, rotation, and property information—is stored in a structured export file. This file can then be consumed in Revit to reconstruct the full layout accurately within a BIM environment, ensuring a one-to-one representation between the mechanical and architectural design spaces.

Family Converter - Revit

The Revit Family Converter completes the conversion workflow initiated in Inventor. It refines the exported assemblies by adding Revit-specific parameters, improving category assignments, and enhancing the accuracy of MEP connectors. This ensures that the imported families behave properly within Revit’s system family framework, supporting scheduling, tagging, and connection behavior across disciplines.

Layout Sync

The Layout Sync tool consumes layout data exported from Inventor’s Layout Exporter. It automates the generation and placement of Revit families according to the coordinates and rotations specified in the export file.

Combined with the Revit Family Converter, Layout Sync reconstructs entire factory or system layouts with remarkable accuracy, ensuring that design intent from Inventor is fully preserved in the Revit project model.
